Recently we visited the Rockhouse Cliffs Rockshelter which are an archaeological site in southern Indiana near the Ohio River. The location has evidence that it was used/occupied by prehistoric humanity at least 10,000 years ago. That is 8,000 years BCE during the Lithic and Archaic periods of North America.
